Job Description
Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking a caring, reliable, and community focused Prenatal Worker to support expecting parents, new parents, infants, and families through prenatal and early years programming.
This is a part time role for someone who is passionate about maternal health, family wellness, culture, prevention, and community based support. The Prenatal Worker will help connect families to information, services, referrals, education, and culturally appropriate supports during pregnancy and the early stages of parenting.
About the Role
The Prenatal Worker will support prenatal and postnatal wellness by providing education, outreach, referrals, program coordination, and practical support to families. This role works closely with the Health and Wellness team, community health staff, nurses, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and external service providers as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide prenatal and postnatal outreach support to expecting parents, new parents, infants, and families.
Support families with information on pregnancy, infant care, nutrition, breastfeeding, parenting, wellness, and healthy development.
Coordinate prenatal classes, parent support groups, wellness sessions, and family focused activities.
Assist families with referrals to health care providers, public health, social supports, housing, transportation, food security supports, and other community services.
Promote culturally appropriate family wellness, traditional teachings, and connection to Elders or Knowledge Keepers where appropriate.
Support appointment reminders, follow up, forms, transportation coordination, and access to services as needed.
Work collaboratively with the Health and Wellness team to support coordinated care for families.
Maintain confidential client notes, program records, attendance, statistics, and reporting information.
Help identify barriers affecting families and support practical solutions.
Participate in staff meetings, case planning, community events, and wellness initiatives as required.
Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and respectful communication at all times.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education or training in health, early childhood development, family support, social services, community wellness, or a related field is preferred.
Experience supporting families, parents, infants, children, or community health programming.
Knowledge of prenatal health, infant care, parenting support, nutrition, and family wellness is an asset.
Experience working with First Nations communities is preferred.
Strong communication, relationship building, and organizational skills.
Ability to provide respectful, non judgmental, and confidential support.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfort using Microsoft Word, email, basic reporting tools, and client documentation systems.
Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation culture and community, or willingness to learn.
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence is preferred.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
