Position Overview:
The Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fleet vehicles, aircraft fueling equipment, and ground support equipment (GSE) used in aircraft fueling operations.
This role ensures all equipment – including fuel trucks, hydrant carts, service vehicles, and related mechanical systems are maintained in a safe, reliable, and operational condition to support airport fueling operations while complying with company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
The position works closely with station operations staff to minimize downtime and ensure equipment is available to meet operational demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on fuel trucks, hydrant dispensers, refuelers, ground power units, and other ground support equipment.

Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues on fleet vehicles and fueling equipment.

Conduct scheduled maintenance services including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and system inspections.

Troubleshoot equipment failures and complete repairs in a timely and efficient manner to minimize operational downtime.

Maintain and repair diesel engines, pumps, valves, meters, and fuel delivery systems.
- Repair or replace mechanical components such as brakes, steering components, suspension systems, hydraulic lines, and pumps.

Inspect and maintain aviation fuel delivery components including pumps, hoses, meters, valves, and filtration systems.

Assist with calibration and inspection of fuel metering equipment where required.

Ensure fuel equipment meets regulatory and operational standards.
Inspections and Compliance
- Conduct daily, weekly, and scheduled inspections of equipment in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.

Maintain accurate maintenance records and service documentation through the use of a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

Ensure all equipment complies with airport authority, environmental, and safety regulations.
-
Identify potential mechanical or safety issues and report them to management.
Operational Support
- Respond to equipment breakdowns or mechanical issues affecting fueling operations.

Assist operations staff with troubleshooting equipment issues in the field when necessary.
-
Ensure critical equipment remains operational during peak operational periods.

Coordinate with station leadership regarding equipment status and repair timelines.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies, airport regulations, and environmental guidelines.

Ensure equipment complies with aviation fueling standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment within the shop and operational areas.
-
Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and compliance programs.
Inventory and Shop Management
- Maintain an inventory of commonly used parts, tools, and supplies.

Coordinate ordering of replacement parts when necessary.

Ensure proper care and maintenance of shop tools and equipment.
-
Ensure the maintenance shop remains clean and organized.
-
To accomplish any other tasks that may, from time to time, be assigned by management.
Qualifications:
-
Journeyman or Apprentice certification in Heavy Equipment, Truck and Transport, or Automotive Mechanic preferred.

Previous experience maintaining fleet vehicles, diesel engines, or heavy equipment.

Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems

Experience with fuel systems or aviation ground support equipment is considered an asset.

Valid driver’s license with ability to operate fueling vehicles.

Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance and required certifications.

Work Environment:

This position operates in both shop and outdoor airport ramp environments with exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions prevalent at the time.

Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical Demands:

Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds regularly.

Ability to climb ladders and access elevated aircraft fueling points.

Ability to work in physically demanding environments including bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including rain, wind, snow, heat, and cold.

Ability to work safely around aircraft engines, fuel equipment, and moving ground vehicles.

Good vision and depth perception to safely operate fueling equipment and vehicles.

Ability to hear and respond to radio communications and ramp safety warnings.
