Tax Specialist – Canada & Global Compliance Coordination
About Shoplazza
Shoplazza is a global one-stop e-commerce platform and a pioneer in cross-border Agentic Commerce. Powered by advanced AI models, we deliver comprehensive AI Agent solutions that span the entire commerce lifecycle — from storefront creation and marketing to payments, fulfillment, and operations. We empower merchants to operate their independent sites efficiently and scale their businesses globally.
Work Environment
We're a fully remote team, which means real flexibility in how and where you work — paired with the expectation that you're comfortable owning your area of the business with a high degree of autonomy. Our finance function is still building out some of its processes, so you'll have real influence over how things get done, not just following an existing playbook. You'll collaborate regularly with colleagues and external advisors across North America and Asia, so comfort working across time zones matters.
Role Summary
We're looking for a Tax Specialist to directly own our Canadian tax compliance and act as the internal quarterback for our tax matters in the US, UK, Singapore, and EU. You won't be expected to be a US, UK, or EU tax expert yourself — for those jurisdictions, you'll work closely with local external tax advisors who lead the technical filings and audit responses, while you make sure nothing falls through the cracks: deadlines are tracked, documentation is gathered, and every entity stays audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities
1. Multi-Jurisdictional Tax Compliance
- Manage annual corporate income tax (CIT) filings for the Canadian entity directly, and coordinate CIT filings for US, Singapore, UK, and EU subsidiaries with local external advisors, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Oversee indirect tax obligations including US state Sales & Use Tax, Canadian GST/HST, UK VAT, and EU VAT/OSS, coordinating with external advisors as needed.
- Maintain company registrations, annual returns, and statutory filings across all jurisdictions in good standing.
- Coordinate year-end statutory audits with local external auditors, ensuring timely completion and accurate financial reporting.
- Review filings and supporting workpapers prepared by external advisors for completeness and consistency with internal financial records prior to submission, flagging discrepancies for follow-up.
2. Tax Authority Relations & Audit Defense
- Serve as the Group's primary liaison with the CRA (Canada), and as the internal point of contact working with local external advisors who lead relationships with the IRS (US), IRAS (Singapore), HMRC (UK), and relevant EU tax administrations.
- Manage responses to tax authority inquiries and information requests directly for Canadian matters; coordinate with local external advisors on responses to formal audits in other jurisdictions, including preparation of supporting documentation and working papers.
- Maintain comprehensive, well-organized tax files and audit-ready documentation across all entities at all times.
3. Transfer Pricing
- Coordinate with external transfer pricing advisors to implement and maintain the Group's global transfer pricing policy, covering IP licensing/royalties, intragroup service fees, and cost-sharing arrangements.
- Support preparation and maintenance of OECD-compliant three-tier transfer pricing documentation: Master File, Local Files, and Country-by-Country Report (CbCR).
- Oversee benchmarking studies conducted by external advisors to substantiate arm's-length pricing for all controlled transactions.
4. Government Incentives & Tax Credits
- Proactively research and monitor government tax incentive programs, subsidies, and credits across all operating jurisdictions, including Canada SR&ED, US R&D Tax Credits, UK R&D Relief, and Singapore EDG/Investment Allowance schemes.
- Evaluate eligibility, quantify potential benefit, and drive end-to-end application and claim processes for Canadian programs directly; coordinate with external advisors and relevant business units (engineering, finance, operations) on claims in other jurisdictions.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- Completion of CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course or a Master of Taxation (MTax) is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of working experience, with at least 3 years at a public accounting firm or tax advisory firm.
- Full professional proficiency in both English and Mandarin Chinese (written and spoken) is mandatory.
