Protrans Personnel Services is currently seeking an experienced Dock Lead Hand for a leading transportation and logistics operation in Montreal. This is an excellent opportunity for a warehouse and transportation professional with leadership experience who thrives in a fast-paced dock environment.
The successful candidate will coordinate dock activities, support freight operations, assist with workforce planning, and ensure compliance with safety, transportation, and HACCP requirements during the overnight shift.
French proficiency is required.
- Sunday to Thursday
- 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- Full-Time Night Shift
$22.85 per hour
Under the supervision of the Dock Foreman, the Dock Lead Hand monitors operational activities at the terminal and helps ensure the efficient loading and unloading of freight.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and oversee daily dock operations during the overnight shift
- Assign dock personnel to sorting, loading, unloading, and freight handling activities
- Schedule and organize workforce requirements based on freight volumes
- Validate schedule changes and communicate staffing requirements
- Prioritize incoming and outgoing freight to ensure efficient operations
- Manage delivery schedules and product holding requirements
- Verify temperatures on inbound and outbound reefer trailers
- Ensure HACCP procedures and documentation are completed accurately
- Complete and verify shipping documentation and freight paperwork
- Ensure trucks, trailers, and LTL shipments comply with transportation weight restrictions
- Conduct forklift inspections at the beginning of each shift
- Lock out unsafe equipment and report maintenance concerns
- Complete shift reports and yard checks and distribute reports as required
- Report employee performance and disciplinary concerns to management
- Load and unload freight as required
- Shrink-wrap, secure, and stage freight for shipment
- Ensure bills and shipping documents accompany shipments
- Complete shift handovers with the incoming Dock Foreman
- Respond to operational emails and administrative requests
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Minimum 2 years of experience in transportation, logistics, warehousing, distribution, freight, or dock operations
- Fluent French communication skills (spoken and written)
- Previous leadership, lead hand, team lead, or workforce coordination experience
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of workplace safety practices
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Reliable, dependable, and punctual
- Experience operating forklifts, including:
- Sit-Down Electric Forklift
- Reach Truck
- Knowledge of AS400
- Experience in LTL transportation, freight handling, cross-dock operations, or logistics environments
- HACCP or food distribution experience
