Assisted Living Alberta has an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Aide at Serenity House in Drayton Valley. Serenity House is a 12 bed Supportive Living program with mild to moderate dementia care, located adjacent to Drayton Valley Continuing Care. As the Health Care Aide at Serenity House, you are responsible for providing direct client support to individuals with dementia residing in Serenity House in a manner that demonstrates principles of choice, dignity, privacy, individuality and independence. Areas of support include personal care, medication assistance, housekeeping, laundry, recreation and meal service. Drayton Valley is located in the Central Zone, just 133 km southwest of Edmonton and 172 km northwest of Red Deer. The town has a population of over 7,000. In and around the area are a library, movie theatre, bowling alley, camping areas, 6 golf courses, and a ski hill. The Team Auction Center (TAC) encompasses three multi-purpose recreation facilities, all under one roof. Conveniently located in the heart of Lions West Valley Park, the TAC is surrounded by five baseball diamonds, a soccer field, a secluded day-use park and a 40-site full-service RV Park.
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Basic Life Support; Emergency First Aid; Safe Food Handling Course; Medication Assistance Program.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year experience as a Health Care Aide in a Supportive Living program.
