P&S Frozen Foods is a CFIA-inspected manufacturer specializing in ready-to-eat meat products and prepared foods. We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to lead and maintain our food safety, quality assurance, and SQF programs across two production facilities.
Reporting to the Director of Quality Assurance, the QA Manager ensures that all products, processes, and facilities comply with CFIA regulations, SQF standards, customer requirements, and internal quality standards. The position leads CFIA inspections and SQF audits and serves as the primary liaison with CFIA inspectors, certification bodies, customers, and other regulatory representatives.
This is a hands-on position that requires a strong presence on the production floor. The QA Manager will work closely with the Operations team to monitor daily activities, address food safety and quality issues, conduct risk assessments, implement corrective actions, and support continuous improvement.
The QA Manager will also promote a strong food safety culture by training, coaching, and supporting employees and establishing individual development and training plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve HACCP, PCP, SQF, and QA programs.
- Ensure compliance with CFIA, SFCR, SQF, customer, and company requirements.
- Lead CFIA inspections and SQF, customer, and third-party audits.
- Liaise with CFIA inspectors, certification bodies, customers, and suppliers.
- Assess food safety and quality risks and determine immediate corrective actions.
- Investigate non-conformances and complaints and implement corrective actions.
- Oversee GMPs, sanitation, allergen control, environmental monitoring, and traceability programs.
- Supervise, train, and develop QA team members.
- Promote a strong food safety culture across the organization.
- Support new product development and commercialization.
- Review product specifications, formulations, nutrition information, and labels.
- Create and update HACCP plans, SOPs, and quality documentation.
- Maintain accurate product and quality data in the ERP system.
- Manage supplier approvals, product holds, releases, and recall readiness.
- Support shelf-life studies, product testing, and process validation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutritional Science, Microbiology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 6 years of progressive Food Safety and Quality Assurance experience in food manufacturing, including supervisory or management experience.
- Minimum 2 years of direct experience in a ready-to-eat food-processing facility. RTE meat-processing experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and maintaining HACCP, PCP, SQF, and other food safety and quality management systems.
- Experience leading CFIA inspections, SQF certification audits, third-party audits, and customer audits.
- HACCP certification is required. SQF Practitioner certification or an equivalent food safety certification is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of SFCR, HACCP principles, Preventive Controls, GMPs, sanitation, allergen management, environmental monitoring, pest control, food defence, traceability, recall, and foreign-material control.
- Experience with supplier approval programs, product specifications, food labelling, nutrition calculations, and recall management.
- Experience supporting new product development, formulation review, and commercialization is an asset.
- Knowledge of meat-processing operations, thermal processing, food microbiology, and meat-processing equipment is highly desirable.
- Proven leadership experience in employee training, coaching, performance management, and food safety culture development.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and root-cause investigation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with regulatory authorities, auditors, customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP or quality-management systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to participate in sensory and organoleptic evaluations of meat and seafood products.
- Ability to work flexible hours when required to support production, audits, investigations, and other business needs.
