43K Wilderness Solutions is looking for a full-time, permanent Park Operations Manager to lead our three park operations on Vancouver Island: Cape Scott Park Backcountry, Strathcona Park Backcountry and Strathcona Park Frontcountry. We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic about parks and getting people outside, has experience in remote logistics and operations management, and has a track record of successfully leading teams for fun and productivity.

Responsibilities

Manage the delivery of excellent park and visitor services

Manage dynamic, seasonal teams of 15-20 people
- Develop and execute workplans, budgets and schedules

Maintain parks infrastructure including toilets, campgrounds and trails

Quality assurance via regular field reviews of all park areas

Lead small-scale park improvement construction projects
-
Champion Service Plus initiatives such as firewood sales, boat rentals, etc
- Manage teams and projects across geographically spread-out locations

Administer contracts
-
Maintain client communication and relationships

Manage 43K’s safety plan within Park Operations

Systems and technology: work with a variety of tech systems such as Google Workspace, Asana, budgeting software, scheduling software, GPS survey apps, etc.
Relevant Qualifications
- Experience managing remote, wilderness logistics and operations
-
Experience managing diverse teams across large geographic locations
-
Experience directly supervising people who supervise people

Basic construction skills
-
Experience working with BC Parks Facility Standards, Specifications, Quality Control framework, reservation system, etc.
- Efficient communication skills across all mediums

Computer and tech savvy - from word processing to spreadsheets, GPS data collection to various mobile apps- we often work in the virtual space

Proven ability to think critically and problem solve

Customer service, hospitality and/or tourism experience

Experience working in parks
- Understand WorkSafe BC requirements and hazard recognition
Required at time of employment:

minimum Class 5 Driver’s License

minimum Basic First Aid and a Transportation Endorsement certificate

Job Conditions

Full-time, permanent — we’re looking for someone interested in building something long-term with us (3+ years preferred)

Work in the Park Operations Manager role from February 15 to November 15, with the option to transition into one of our other departments for the other three months

Approximately 40 hours per week which will include working weekends, evenings and holidays
-
Frequent travel between operating areas
-
Working and living in un-serviced, wilderness areas with rustic accommodations (cabins, yurts, tents, etc.)
- Spending multiple nights away from home from May to September

Work independently and with small teams
-
Hike 5-15 kms a day with a 30lb pack over a variety of terrain (coastal and sub-alpine)

Working in adverse weather conditions
- Working full days at a computer in an office environment

Working in and around helicopters and boats

Strict no pet policy while at work and in camp
