Now Hiring! Sr. Metal Engineer – Custom Architectural Millwork
- Commercial Woodworking industry Experience is Required!
Full-Time | On-Site (Mississauga, ON)
We are looking for a Senior Metal Engineer to join our growing team. If you enjoy detailed metal drafting and turning architectural concepts into accurate, production-ready drawings, this is a great opportunity to work on high-quality, custom projects.
In this role, you will create detailed drawings and fabrication packages for custom metal components, architectural features, and integrated assemblies using AutoCAD, Microvellum, and other supporting design tools. You will work closely with Project Managers, Designers, and the Shop team to ensure each project is accurate, buildable, and delivered on time.
Experience in an architectural millwork environment is considered an asset, as many projects involve integrating custom metal components with millwork, cabinetry, and other architectural finishes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take ownership of projects and seeing them through to 100% with detailed focus on drawings, details, dimensions and hardware specifications. The drawing should be complete with all the required information to drive the product to the finish line.
- Manage information, maintaining notes, documentation and making sure your questions are answered when needed utilizing our internal ERP system.
- Develop accurate drawings in AutoCAD as a supplementary software to support Microvellum and create supplementary shop production drawings for use by Manufacturing team (For example; cut lists, flat layouts, sequence layouts, etc.)
- Read and understand Architectural drawings, site dimensions, site photos, etc.
- Understand the project requirements and collaborating with different teams to produce the drawings efficiently, on budget and on time.
- Revise redlines and ensures the accuracy of information prior to resubmission.
- Review plans, specifications and other documentation as requested by Project Managers.
- Strive to meet and exceed our customers’ requirements.
- Maintain notes, design calculations and other documentation
- Create bill of materials for shop drawings
- Work closely with Project Managers, Programmers and various other levels of Management.
ABILITIES
- Candidates proficient AutoCAD will be considered
- Demonstrated Attention to Detail (Experienced)
- Ability to multitask and manage several projects
- Excellent Decision-Making Skills and ability to Take Direction
- Excellent communications skills - interpersonal, listening, oral, and written.
- Able to generate layout drawings, sketches and specifications.
- Familiar with design parameters related to architectural in both woodworking and metal.
- Knowledgeable of standard drafting practices and procedures.
- Able to figure out what material is used with various products
- Able to work with minimal supervision, efficiently schedule and manage time.
- Proficient in 3D Modelling
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Drawing development with metal features in Auto Cad (required 5 years+)
- Carpentry/ Cabinet Making experience is considered a strong asset
- Metal Architectural feature experience is considered a strong asset.
- Microvellum software awareness, an asset
- SolidWorks (preferred 2 years+)
- Excel (Proficient - Advanced)
- Good understanding of different product builds, dowels, dados, etc.
- Good understanding of hardware
- Problem and technical solver
- Self-driven and ability to work independently
- Some shop/ machining experience is preferred
- Knowledge of AWMAC Standards is preferred
Additional Assets
- Microvellum, SolidWorks or SWOOD experience
- Carpentry or cabinetmaking hands on experience
- Manufacturing and/or machining experience
- Understanding of AWMAC standards
