We are seeking an experienced Senior In-House Litigation Counsel to lead the company’s litigation function while providing strategic legal advice on commercial, real estate, and corporate matters.
Position Overview
This is a senior legal role with a strong emphasis on litigation. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing litigation strategy, managing complex disputes, supervising external counsel, and protecting the company’s interests across multiple business divisions.
The role also includes advising management on legal risk, corporate matters, financing transactions, and real estate development issues.
Primary Responsibilities
Litigation (Primary Focus)
- Lead and manage all litigation involving the company.
- Develop litigation strategy from commencement through resolution.
- Handle commercial, real estate, construction, shareholder, and contractual disputes.
- Manage injunctions, enforcement proceedings, collections, and recovery actions.
- Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, affidavits, demand letters, and settlement agreements.
- Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings where appropriate.
- Instruct, supervise, and manage external litigation counsel.
- Negotiate settlements and implement practical dispute resolution strategies.
- Advise senior management on litigation exposure and legal risk.
- Establish litigation management systems and reporting procedures.
Real Estate & Commercial
- Advise on land acquisitions, development agreements, construction contracts, commercial leasing, mortgage financing, and joint ventures.
- Review and negotiate commercial contracts.
- Support financing and security documentation.
- Provide legal advice on development and infrastructure projects.
Corporate Advisory
- Advise on corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
- Prepare board and shareholder resolutions.
- Support acquisitions, restructurings, and strategic transactions.
- Maintain corporate legal records and oversee governance matters.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Have at least 7 years of litigation experience, with significant exposure to commercial or civil litigation.
- Demonstrate experience managing complex litigation files from inception through trial or settlement.
- Have exceptional advocacy, negotiation, drafting, and strategic problem-solving skills.
- Be capable of independently managing multiple high-value matters.

- Mortgage enforcement
- Land development
- Securities or regulatory proceedings
