Job Summary:
The cook at Orca Lelum plays a vital role in supporting the kitchen supervisor in the efficient functioning of the kitchen operations. This position is responsible for food preparation, cooking, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepare a daily prep list.
2. Assist with food preparation tasks, including chopping vegetables, marinating meat, and preparing sauces as directed.
3. Follow recipes and portion control guidelines to ensure consistent quality.
4. Collaborate with the kitchen supervisor to develop and modify menus as needed.
5. Cook and assemble dishes according to established recipes and standards.
6. Ensure food is cooked to the appropriate temperature and is as prescribed in Canada’s food guide.
7. Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely service and food delivery.
8. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
9. Follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures to prevent cross-contamination and foodborne illnesses.
10. Assist with dishwashing and cleaning tasks as needed.
11. Support the kitchen supervisor in inventory management, including receiving and storing deliveries.
12. Assist with monitoring food and supply levels and notifying the kitchen supervisor of any shortages.
13. Follow instructions and guidelines provided by the kitchen supervisor to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
o High school diploma and/or 1–3 years of commercial cooking experience.
o Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
o Valid First Aid Certificate - Emergency First Aid – Community Care.
o Valid Foodsafe certificate (Level 1).
o Must consent to a criminal record check.
o Good working knowledge of Coast Salish teachings is an asset.
