Key Responsibilities
As the Underground Foreman, you will lead on-site underground construction operations, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Site Supervision & Project Execution
- Oversee daily construction activities, including excavation, grading, and installation of underground utilities, ensuring work aligns with project specifications and timelines.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials effectively to maintain productivity and meet project milestones within budget.
Planning & Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to develop and execute construction plans, schedules, and work strategies.
- Review drawings and specifications to identify requirements, resolve discrepancies, and proactively address potential site challenges.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety regulations and company policies, leading daily hazard assessments and toolbox meetings to maintain a safe work environment.
- Conduct regular site inspections and take corrective action to ensure compliance with OH&S standards and industry best practices.
Quality Control & Reporting
- Monitor workmanship and conduct quality control inspections to ensure all work meets or exceeds project requirements.
- Prepare and submit reports on project progress, site conditions, and any issues impacting timelines or budgets.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, mentor, and motivate crew members and subcontractors, providing clear direction and ongoing support.
- Conduct performance evaluations and foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Administrative & Operational Oversight
- Manage site documentation including timesheets, incident reports, and daily logs with accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are available, maintained, and properly utilized on-site.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in civil or underground utility construction.
- Previous leadership or foreman experience in a construction environment is required.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of underground utility installation, earthworks, and site development practices.
- Experience with construction software such as B2W, Bluebeam, or similar tools is an asset.
Key Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to drive performance on-site.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency.
