Planner/Scheduler, Full Time
MacKinnon & Olding has an immediate need for a Planner/Scheduler to support our work on the River Class Destroyer (RCD) program at Irving Shipyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This position will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules for insulation and related work scopes within the RCD program. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, site supervision, clients, subcontractors, and production teams to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project milestones.
Please note that the successful candidate will need to obtain their Controlled Goods Clearance and Reliability Status to enter the shipyard.
RESPONSIBILITIES: What you will do
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Prepare look-ahead schedules and weekly work plans.
- Coordinate activities with Irving Shipbuilding, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Monitor schedule performance and identify risks, constraints, and recovery opportunities.
- Update schedules based on field progress and changing project requirements.
- Assist with workforce planning and labour forecasting.
- Support earned value analysis and project performance reporting.
- Produce schedule variance reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in project meetings with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Analyze productivity and progress trends.
- Ensure alignment between project schedules, procurement activities, material deliveries, and construction priorities.
- Support estimating and proposal efforts as required.
- Assist in developing execution strategies for shipboard insulation and related scopes of work.
QUALIFICATIONS: Your background
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline
- 3-5 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, project controls, or construction management
- Experience in marine, shipbuilding, industrial, oil and gas, heavy construction, or infrastructure
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft
- Strong knowledge of scheduling methodologies, including CPM
- Experience interpreting drawings, specifications, and work packages
