We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in a technical leadership capacity. This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys solving engineering challenges, mentoring staff, reviewing designs, and providing practical solutions throughout the construction process.
Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical resource for the mechanical team, providing high-level design oversight, quality control, and support during project execution and construction. This role is less focused on day-to-day drafting and production and more focused on engineering judgment, risk management, problem solving, and technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Review mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, and drawings for quality, accuracy, and code compliance.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers and designers.
- Assist project teams in resolving design and construction-related issues.
- Participate in coordination meetings with clients, architects, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, change notices, and construction-related documentation.
- Provide engineering solutions to unforeseen site conditions and field issues.
- Support project managers in maintaining technical excellence across projects.
- Assist in the development and implementation of engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct occasional site reviews and investigations as required.
- Apply practical construction knowledge to ensure designs are buildable, maintainable, and cost-effective.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in Ontario.
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in consulting engineering.
- Strong background in HVAC, plumbing, and building mechanical systems.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Proven experience resolving construction and field-related issues.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to review and evaluate engineering designs from a high-level technical perspective.
- Experience with commercial, retail, restaurant, institutional, or industrial projects is considered an asset.
