Position Title: Secondary Youth Worker – Back on Track
Location: Foundry Quebec St. (490 Quebec St, Prince George, BC V2L 5N5)
Term: Temporary, Part-Time
Hours: 12.5 hours per week
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-11:00am
Start Date: August 26, 2026
End Date: June 30, 2027
Salary: $21.00 per hour
Reports To: Manager, Community Programs

Nature & Scope
YMCA’s Back on Track is a recognized school perseverance program that offers support to students ages 12-18 who, for various reasons, are struggling with or have been suspended from school. To date, the program is in operation in over 50 locations throughout Canada and internationally.
Under the supervision of the Community Programs Manager and the Director of Community Health, the secondary youth worker will be responsible for providing support to both students and the primary youth worker. This may include supervising youth, offering educational assistance, helping to facilitate workshops and organizing recreation activities.
Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:

Builds positive, trusting relationships with diverse youth

Conducts interventions with upper intermediate primary school students and secondary school students individually and in a small group setting

May support or deliver group workshops on social or behavioural issues (e.g. anger management, responsibility, healthy relationships, etc.)

Supervises and supports students with assigned academic schoolwork

Implements strong “youth work” approach informed by program and participants’ objectives

Works as a united team with the primary youth worker

May organize recreation or life skill activities (baking, art etc)

Assists with classroom cleaning and general maintenance

Adheres to the YMCA Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policies and Procedures and YMCA Code of Conduct

Work closely with other YMCA of Northern BC youth programs, including Foundry Prince George and Youth Around Prince (YAP)
Qualification-you bring:
-
Post-secondary education or relevant work experience in youth work, social work or other related fields
-
2 years of related work or volunteer experience working with youth, vulnerable populations, or other relevant population

Strong communication skills, both spoken and written
-
Strong understanding of issues impacting youth and healthy youth development

Ability to engage and motivate
-
Ability to work individually and in groups with diverse youth and their families, including youth with challenging behaviours

Understanding of the impact of colonization and residential schools on Indigenous people
-
Personal understanding of and alignment with the mission, vision, strategic outcomes, and values of the YMCA
-
Proven ability to develop and maintain effective cooperative relationships
-
Commitment to social inclusion and able to respond sensitively and with personal awareness to the needs of participants, including those with barriers to participation

Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
-
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
