The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the daily assignments of utility maintenance crews and service personnel. This role requires a proactive individual with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills to manage service requests, dispatch field teams, and monitor ongoing operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and Prioritize Service Requests: Handle incoming requests for utility services and emergency assistance, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
- Dispatch Personnel: Assign maintenance crews and service teams based on the nature of the request, location, and urgency, adhering to established schedules and protocols.
- Monitor Field Operations: Track the status and location of field personnel, ensuring efficient deployment and adherence to safety standards.
- Coordinate Communication: Serve as the central point of contact between field teams, management, and customers, facilitating clear and effective communication.
- Advise on Route and Traffic Conditions: Provide field teams with up-to-date information on route conditions, traffic, construction zones, and weather-related issues to optimize response times.
- Maintain Accurate Records: Document all service requests, dispatch actions, and field reports using computerized systems, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility.
- Operate Communication Equipment: Utilize radios and other telecommunication tools to maintain constant communication with field teams and other stakeholders.
- Ensure Compliance: Adhere to company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards in all dispatching activities.
- Assist in Emergency Situations: Coordinate with emergency services and deploy appropriate teams during utility emergencies, ensuring swift and effective responses.
- Collaborate with Other Departments: Work closely with planning, maintenance, and customer service teams to ensure cohesive operations and high customer satisfaction.
- Any other duties which may be assigned to you from time to time by your manager
Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary school is required.
- Previous experience in dispatching, preferably within the utilities sector or a related field.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Familiarity with computer-aided dispatch systems and standard office software.
- Proficiency in dispatch software (e.g., Load boards, TMS)
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
- Strong multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills
- Comfort working with data and spreadsheets (Excel)
- Ability to use mapping/GIS-style tools and digital systems
- Technology aptitude and willingness to learn new software
- Attention to detail when managing electronic records and operational data
