Position Overview
Fireweed Camps Ltd. is seeking experienced and motivated Chefs and Relief Chefs to support wildfire, emergency response, industrial, and remote camp operations throughout British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. This role is responsible for preparing quality meals, supervising kitchen staff, maintaining food safety standards, managing inventory and ordering, and ensuring efficient kitchen operations in remote camp environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Kitchen Operations
- Plan, prepare, and serve high-quality meals that meet client and dietary requirements.
- Ensure meals are prepared on time and meet Fireweed Camps standards.
- Maintain proper food storage, handling, sanitation, and kitchen cleanliness.
- Prepare special meals for dietary restrictions and allergies.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff.
- Assign daily tasks and monitor performance.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and productive work environment.
- Assist with scheduling and day-to-day staff management.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Follow and enforce Food Safe, HACCP, WorkSafe BC, and company standards.
- Monitor food storage, temperature logs, sanitation procedures, and inventory rotation (FIFO).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
Inventory & Administration
- Manage food inventory and supply levels.
- Coordinate grocery and supply orders based on camp requirements.
- Use Microsoft Excel and related software for ordering, inventory tracking, and reporting.
- Complete required paperwork, reports, timesheets, and documentation accurately and on time.
Client Relations
- Maintain positive relationships with clients and camp personnel.
- Address concerns professionally and communicate operational needs to management.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
- Culinary Certificate or equivalent experience.
- Current Level 2 Food Safe Certification.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Basic First Aid.
- Experience working in remote camps, industrial catering, wildfire camps, or similar environments.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic computer applications.
Assets:
- Supervisory or management experience.
- Restaurant, hotel, banquet, or large-scale catering experience.
- Emergency response or wildfire camp experience.
Working Conditions
- Remote camp-based work throughout British Columbia.
- Extended shifts in fast-paced and physically demanding environments.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends and extended deployments.
- Camp accommodations and meals provided while on assignment.
