Reporting to the Manager, Geospatial and Drafting, the Supervisor, Geospatial plays a key leadership role in advancing the company’s geospatial capabilities and data strategy. This position is responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and optimization of the company’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and spatial data assets. The role establishes and maintains standards for the creation, management, accessibility, storage, quality, and lifecycle of spatial data while ensuring GIS solutions effectively support business and operational needs.
The Supervisor leads and mentors a team of GIS Technicians, providing direction, oversight, and development opportunities. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, and other business units, the Supervisor collaborates to understand requirements, develop geospatial solutions, and deliver mapping and spatial data services that support informed decision-making across the organization. Leveraging emerging technologies, industry’s best practices, and a continuous improvement mindset, the Supervisor drives innovation, efficiency, and growth to deliver value to our customers.
Responsibilities:
Liaise with other internal departments such as Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Asset Management to provide support and feedback on geospatial issues.
Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and distribution of any mapping and data products to internal and external users.
Oversee as-building activities to maintain accurate and current gas system information in the GIS database.
Provide support to projects to ensure that they are performed in compliance with company objectives and to achieve system best practices.
Manage team budgets, monitor expenditures, and identify cost saving opportunities.
Lead the recruitment, development, performance management, and other human resources management functions pertaining to the Geospatial team.
Maintain contact with industry organizations, associations, and peers to exchange ideas, stay current with new technology, standards, and best practices, and produce cost-effective solutions.
Qualifications:

Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related discipline, such as GIS, Geomatics, Surveying, Asset Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field.

A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant technical experience is required, including expertise in natural gas systems, geospatial systems, asset management, or a combination of these areas.

Demonstrated leadership experience, with a proven ability to lead teams, projects, initiatives, and organizational change.
Ability to collaborate, motivate, lead, and manage a team of technical staff to achieve successful results.
Excellent written, oral, presentation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to evaluate technical requirements and make sound decisions.
Must be able to work under tight time constraints and meet deadlines.
Skilled in managing work assignments and resource allocation across internal teams and external vendors.
Demonstrated project management skills would be considered an asset.
