Retail Purchasing & Merchandising Manager
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Retail Purchasing & Merchandising Manager to oversee product purchasing, inventory planning, merchandising, and vendor relationships for a growing retail operation. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of retail buying, inventory management, sales trends, and merchandising, with the ability to source products that align with customer demand and business objectives.
This role plays a critical part in maximizing sales, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and delivering an engaging shopping experience through thoughtful product selection and merchandising.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies that align with business goals, customer demand, and seasonal trends.
- Source new products and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective vendors.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and purchasing agreements to maximize profitability.
- Manage inventory levels, replenishment schedules, and purchasing budgets to ensure appropriate stock availability while minimizing overstock.
- Analyze sales data, inventory turnover, and market trends to inform purchasing decisions.
- Plan and coordinate seasonal assortments, new product launches, and promotional inventory.
- Oversee merchandising standards, product placement, pricing, and visual presentation to maximize sales performance.
- Monitor product performance and adjust purchasing strategies based on sales results and customer feedback.
- Collaborate with operations and leadership to support promotional campaigns and overall business objectives.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, inventory reports, and product databases.
- Assist with forecasting, budgeting, and long-term merchandise planning.
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and established procedures.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in retail purchasing, buying, merchandising, or inventory management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales reports and inventory data.
- Experience negotiating with suppliers and managing vendor relationships.
- Excellent understanding of inventory planning, replenishment, and retail merchandising principles.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency with inventory management systems, POS software, and purchasing platforms.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis is considered an asset.
