The Payroll Accountant is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll, gratuities, payroll taxes and accounting work. They are responsible for all elements surrounding payroll including year end processing, benefits reconciliations and payments, union reporting etc. They are responsible for providing financial analysis and budget support.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for Salary and Hourly employees using Jonas Software.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely processing and reconciliation of various gratuities for Hourly employees.
- Responsible for the calculation and remittance of various deductions, for all payroll groups; reconcile payroll accounts with the General Ledger; ensure accurate expense and liability accounts are processed; ensure recording of payments thru A/P.
- Create and post journal entries for payroll and finance functions.
- Responsible for year-end filing
- Ensure accurate costing of payroll; provide payroll information when required for the filing of corporate tax returns and liaises with Finance on taxation issues.
Reporting:
- Month end accruals and reconciliation of benefit accounts and payroll sub-ledger to the General Ledger.
- Overall responsibility for timely remittance and reporting of statutory contributions in compliance with regulations and statutory requirements. Includes: Payroll Taxes, EHT, WSIB, Union Reporting
- Maintain attendance and vacation reporting, and provide monthly status reports to group managers.
- Vacation reporting
- Hours towards probation for Union Employees
- Analyze, compile and report payroll statistics to government agencies
- Monthly variance analysis and reporting of Salaries & Benefits expense item in financial statements update.
Education / Certification / Work Experience
- A minimum 5 years of Payroll and accounting experience
- CPA or working towards CPA is an asset
- College diploma or certificate in Business, Accounting
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills required
Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
