Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Manager - Finance, the Supervisor – Finance leads, coordinates, and supports the daily workflows of the Accounting Section, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and reports.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage the Finance Team including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development in a union environment.
- Manage the daily workflows of the Finance department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payments, and collections. Provide technical guidance to employees.
- Participate in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements. Prepare and distribute related financial reports.
- Participate as a part of the Finance management team in the development and execution of strategic plans as they relate to the operation of the Finance division.
- In coordination with the Manager - Finance, liaise with the Executive Leadership Team, internal managers, and external auditors, as required.
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of the division’s operating budget.
- Coordinate the preparation and processing of inputs for the various accounting subsystems; collaborate with other sections and divisions to ensure schedules are consistently met.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate procedures and methods related to the various accounting systems and reporting structures, driving efficiencies and improvements.
- Provide support and training to internal end-users of the accounting systems.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of and comply with all legislation and Tbaytel policies relevant to the position and the duties performed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Business Administration or Commerce with an emphasis in financial accounting and cost control
- Three years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role
- Proven analytical skills
- Proficiency in the use of various computer software programs, such as email, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Drive (Sheets, Docs, Slides) and the ability to learn new software as required.
- Hands-on experience utilizing mainstream accounting software to manage and oversee financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting in a professional business environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with company stakeholders with the highest standards of business etiquette and integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
- A professional accounting designation (CPA)
- Telecommunication or utility accounting, and experience preparing financial statements in these
environments
Conditions of Employment
- Must successfully undergo a satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
- Must be aware of, and be competent, and comply with the duties of a supervisor as legislated under the latest version of the Federal Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Part II of the Canada Labour Code.
- Required to be available for emergency calls per a rotating schedule with other departments
