JOB SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Fleet Supervisor - Mechanical
This position involves planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and coordinating preventive maintenance, inspections, and repair programs for the City of Moncton’s fleet. Work requires applying technical knowledge in fleet maintenance operations to review user-reported issues, diagnose vehicle and equipment problems, prepare detailed work orders, and estimate service requirements. The role also involves maintaining accurate fleet records, monitoring maintenance progress, and coordinating resources, external services, and communications with user departments to ensure timely, cost-effective, and reliable fleet operations.
EDUCATION:

High School graduate or equivalent.

Must have a (two) two-year post-secondary diploma from a recognized institution in mechanical engineering or a graduate from a recognized Trade or Technical School in the field of Mechanics/Welding/Metal Fabrication
EXPERIENCE:
-
Must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an automotive or systems environment with hands-on use of a Fleet Management System (Assetworks).

Must have one (1) year of direct supervisory experience in a formal supervisor/lead role (i.e., supervising staff), with demonstrated ability to plan, organize, assign, and direct work and resources.
NOTE: In the event this competition poses difficulty in recruiting candidates who meet the direct supervisory experience requirement, consideration may be given to candidates with a minimum of one (1) year of experience being a team lead/project manager dealing with clients, contractors and staff assignments to ensure quality, cost and schedule are met.

Must have demonstrated experience in customer service.

The ability to function in English is a requirement. As per provincial language proficiency standards, functional is determined to be at the Intermediate+ (2+) level or higher
KNOWLEDGE, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must have the ability to lead and implement goal-setting/results-oriented work methods.

Must be knowledgeable in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Must be self-motivated.

Intermediate level ability to use Microsoft Office programs such as Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

Must be proficient in the use of the computerized fleet management system.

Work requires a sound working knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.

Must possess good communication skills.

A high degree of initiative and judgment is required in performing duties.

Must be knowledgeable of computer applications in the field of equipment management and fleet management: (Fleet Management System).

Must possess the ability to write technical reports.

Must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where internal customers are working to deadlines and maintenance and repair are crucial to the delivery of services.

Must be capable of working with minimum supervision.
CONTACT:

The work requires contact with employees in the mechanical division, other departments, and external vendors regarding repairs, equipment delivery, preventive maintenance, and the availability of vehicles and equipment.

The purpose of these contacts is to answer questions, inquiries, requests, or complaints, and to discuss techniques, procedures, and priorities to solve a variety of interrelated organizational and technical problems.
SUPERVISION:

Must have the ability to organize and supervise staff.
-
The work requires direct supervision of the activities of employees, coaching and mentoring employees, allocating staff to projects, reviewing and evaluating the quality and quantity of work, and formally evaluating staff performance.

Supervises all working foremen, mechanics, and welders/machinists as required.

Required to enforce the Mechanical Division and the City's corporate policies.

Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, assign, and supervise the work of subordinates.
CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Work requires a high level of attention and mental sensory coordination, with frequent short periods of concentration and occasional night and weekend work.

Work requires little physical effort to check the progress of individual preventative maintenance or repair activities.

The working environment is frequently exposed to heat, cold, fumes, dirt, oil, and welding, cutting, and gouging equipment.

Requires attitudinal characteristics that reflect the best interests of the corporation and community at large.

This position will be a 40-hour work week under the CHEA/PSAC Local 60200 Collective Agreement.
