About the Organization
At Local Engineering, we are an Alberta based engineering services provider supporting a select group of recurring clients. Local’s unique approach is to develop a long-term relationship with our clients, becoming the “owner’s engineer” and prioritizing client needs. We have a wide-ranging and diverse client base to help stabilize our workload when some markets are in a downturn. The growing Local Engineering team is small but nimble, which allows us to adapt to client requirements quickly and effectively.
Job Summary
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) with experience in building system design (HVAC, fire protection, fuel gas piping, etc.) in industrial settings who is available to support various client projects.
The pace of work is fast and changes from day to day, which requires an agile person who can manage and execute many activities simultaneously in a challenging environment while adhering to project scope, budget and schedule. This position provides an opportunity for continued growth and career development and requires a motivated individual who can constantly adapt. It is critical that the successful candidate is a positive addition to the existing strong and cohesive team.
Education & Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline, or equivalent.
- Professional Engineering designation with APEGA.
- Preference will be given to a candidate with more than 5 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience specialized in HVAC, Fire Protection, and/or fuel gas piping design.
- Working knowledge of the Alberta Building Code (ABC) for mechanical building systems and associated referenced standards.
- Working knowledge of the Alberta Fire Code and associated referenced standards.
- Working knowledge of the Alberta Gas Code and associated referenced standards.
- Experience performing ventilation studies in industrial facilities is considered an asset.
- Experience using CFD to perform HVAC simulations is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents.
- Other industrial engineering experience is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
- Execute project specific mechanical engineering activities with parameters specified by the lead mechanical engineer and/or project manager.
- Develop, review, and stamp designs and calculation following Local standards and procedures.
- Report to the Mechanical Engineering Lead on progress of work and assist in mentorship and technical guidance of more junior team members.
- Input to manhour estimates.
- Demonstrate commitment to safety, and lead by example.

Licence/Certification:
