Counsellor: Registered Social Worker / Registered Psychotherapist
Virtual, Ontario-Wide
We're hiring an independent contractor therapist who gets a little too excited about a good reframe, thinks attachment theory makes for great dinner conversation, and would rather dig into the hard stuff with a client than skim the surface for fifty minutes. If that's you, keep reading.
Who We Are
The Heart of Healing Counselling Services is a virtual therapy practice serving clients across Ontario. We believe that at the heart of healing is connection, not just for clients but also for us as clinicians. We're building the kind of team where clinicians actually love their caseload, where we're excited about doing peer supervision together, and have room to specialize instead of being everything to everyone. Think less “corporate intake mill,” more “a group chat of therapists who genuinely like each other and talk shop.”
The Role
We're looking for a Registered Social Worker / Registered Psychotherapist to carry a virtual caseload across Ontario. You'll bring clinical rigour and a strong sense of self to the work, and yes, a sense of humour helps, because burnout is not it.
Who You Are
- A Master's degree (MSW or MACP). A Doctorate is a bonus, not a requirement.
- Registered and in good standing with your Ontario regulatory college (CRPO or OCSWSSW).
- High-energy, and not in a caffeinated-and-jittery way, in an “I actually love this work” way.
- Hungry to keep building your skill set. You see training as fuel, not a chore, and seek it out with passion.
- Not afraid to go deep with clients instead of staying comfortably surface-level.
- Ready to build a caseload of private clients and to work together to create a practice worth bragging about to your friends.
- Warm, a little funny, and easy to be in a room (or a Zoom box) with.
What We're Looking For
Well-Trained
- At least one post-graduate certification in a recognized modality: EFT, EFCT, AEDP, EMDR, ACT, DBT, CBT, IFS, Narrative Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy (BSFT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), MBSR, Trauma-Focused Care, the Gottman Method, or Relational Family Therapy.
- Experience supervising students is a bonus.
Experienced
- 3+ years of direct client work, comfortable working independently with light supervision.
- Experience with at least two of: individuals, couples, or families.
- Bonus: experience with 2SLGBTQI+ clients, racialized communities, newcomer or international clients, Indigenous clients, post-secondary students, various faith communities, veterans and first responders, or clients living with chronic illness or immune disorders.
Tech-Comfortable
- Comfortable in Microsoft Office and practice management / EMR software. We run on Jane, so prior Jane App experience is a plus (we'll train you either way).
- Bonus if you don't flinch at the idea of an Instagram Reel. We like a team that's willing to show up (a little) on social.
Organized
- Comfortable managing both short-term and long-term files, with clear and thorough case notes.
- Working knowledge of Ontario's regulatory and privacy framework: the Mental Health Act, PHIPA, PIPEDA, the Health Care Consent Act, the Substitute Decisions Act, the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Regulated Health Professions Act.
Flexible
- Some evening or weekend availability is appreciated
- We're virtual-first, so most of your caseload runs from wherever you do your best work, with the option of some in-person sessions for anyone who wants that mix.
Other Assets
- Comfortable practicing from an anti-oppressive lens and building assessments and treatment plans collaboratively with clients.
- A self-reflexive, growth-minded approach to your own practice.
- Languages
- Genuine interest in ongoing professional development
What You'll Get
- Competitive fee split that respects what you bring to the room.
- A team that actually wants to talk cases, not just swap calendar invites.
Location & Licensing
This role is fully virtual, seeing clients across Ontario. You must be registered to practice in Ontario. There may be an option to see clients in person near Queen St E and Broadview, or other office locations, should this be something you are passionate about.
If you or someone you know is dually registered in another province, please let us know, e.g., Alberta and Ontario (because those evenings can get tricky).
We Warmly Encourage Applications From All
But especially BIPOC, mixed-race/multiracial, along with other racialized and equity-deserving therapists, to apply. Our client community is diverse, and we want our team to reflect that.
How to Apply
Send your resume and a cover letter with a short note on what draws you to this work, bonus points if it makes us laugh.
Pay: $80.00-$95.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
- Work from home
