Position Overview
As a Mechatronics Engineer | Specialist, you will play a key role in designing, programming, integrating, and commissioning advanced automation systems for modern manufacturing environments.
This role has a strong emphasis on PLC programming, controls, and system commissioning, while also requiring a well-rounded understanding of mechanical and electrical systems. You will work across disciplines to support the design and delivery of complete automation solutions, including robotic workcells, conveyors, material handling systems, vision systems, sensor integration, and custom machine assemblies.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically versatile, and comfortable moving between PLC programming, electrical troubleshooting, mechanical design review, and on-site commissioning. Experience with mechanical design, robotic end effectors, framing, sensor mounts, workcell layouts, and electrical schematics is considered a strong asset.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of diverse industrial automation projects from concept through commissioning, working directly with customers and making a tangible impact in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
While we do not expect candidates to be specialists in all of the below areas, this list represents a range of work to fit the candidates unique skill-set.
- Design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems for manufacturing, robotics, and material handling applications.
- Program, debug, and optimize Beckhoff and Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation PLC systems.
- Develop and configure HMI applications for operator interaction, diagnostics, alarms, and system visualization.
- Support robotic system integration, including end-of-arm tooling, safety systems, sensors, conveyors, and peripheral equipment.
- Assist with mechanical design tasks including 3D design of robotic end effectors, framing, sensor mounts, brackets, guarding, and workcell layouts.
- Support the creation and review of workcell drawings, mechanical assemblies, and installation layouts.
- Assist with electrical design and documentation, including panel layouts, field wiring, I/O lists, and electrical drawings.
- Work with electrical design tools such as SkyCAD and/or SolidWorks Electrical.
- Perform system integration involving PLCs, HMIs, sensors, actuators, servos, VFDs, conveyors, robots, and industrial networks.
- Commission and troubleshoot automation systems on customer sites.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues in live production environments.
- Collaborate directly with customers during design reviews, installation, startup, commissioning, and support.
- Work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, software, and robotics teams to ensure cohesive system design.
- Support documentation, testing, FAT/SAT activities, and continuous improvement of automation standards.
