Part-Time Dietary Aide / Cook — Retirement Home
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Dietary Aide and Cook to join our team in a warm and welcoming retirement home setting.
Position: Part-Time, Permanent
Starting Wage: $18.43- $19.12/hour
Hours: Approximately 20+ hours per week
Shifts:
- 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 pm & 11:30-7:30
- 7:00 am- 2:00 pm & 11:00am- 7:00pm
Responsibilities
- Assist in meal preparation and service for residents
- Follow menus and prepare meals according to established recipes and dietary guidelines
- Prepare ingredients for current and upcoming shifts (washing vegetables, chopping, seasoning meats, etc.)
- Cook and present home-style meals suitable for seniors
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and dining areas
- Set up, sanitize, clean, and organize workstations
- Communicate effectively with nursing and dietary teams regarding resident preferences or changes
- Set up and clean up dining areas before and after meal service
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment using approved sanitation methods
- Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation standards
- Assist with inventory management, including checking expiry dates and rotating stock
- Restock food and supplies in preparation areas, fridges, and pantries
- Ensure residents receive special diets and texture modifications as per dietary requirements
- Properly store all food items and monitor/record food and fridge temperatures
- Label and store leftovers properly following food safety standards
- Assist other cooks and dietary staff as needed to ensure smooth kitchen operations
- Provide friendly, respectful service to residents and coworkers
Qualifications
- Experience: Must have prior cooking experience in a retirement home or healthcare setting
- Certification: Valid Safe Food Handlers Certificate (required)
- Police Check: Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Must be able to work all scheduled shifts and start immediately
- Fast food experience is not sufficient — full meal preparation experience is required
Schedule
- 8-hour shifts
- Day shifts
- Weekends and holidays as needed
- On-call availability
Compensation
- $17.20-18.76/hour to start
- Part-time, permanent position
