Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller is responsible for leading the day to day financial operations of the organization, including financial reporting, the monthly and annual accounting cycle, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and maintaining effective internal controls. The Controller will partner closely with operational leaders in our fast-paced, high volume construction environment to provide timely financial insights that support informed decision making, operational excellence, and continued business growth. The ideal candidate is hands-on who can balance strategic financial oversight with day-to-day accounting responsibilities while fostering a collaborative and high-performing finance team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the day to day accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial analysis to support business decisions.
- Partner with the CFO in developing annual operating and capital budgets, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and provide recommendations to improve profitability, operational efficiency, and project performance.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with ASPE, tax legislation, payroll requirements, and other regulatory obligations.
- Coordinate the annual audit and liaise with external auditors and financial partners.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance financial reporting, efficiency, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with Operations and other departments to provide financial guidance and support business objectives.
- Support the CFO with strategic initiatives, special projects, and other duties as required.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with ERP/accounting software
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume, project-based construction environment.
Qualifications
- CPA designation, or actively working toward completion of the CPA designation.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
- Experience in the construction, infrastructure, or project-based industry is considered a strong asset.
