We are seeking an experienced Intermodal Container Dispatcher for one of our client. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience coordinating import and export container movements through CN and CPKC rail terminals, marine ports, and customer facilities.
This role requires a strong understanding of intermodal transportation, container tracking, terminal operations, appointment scheduling, and driver dispatch. Candidates with only general truckload, LTL, or local dispatch experience will not be considered.
Responsibilities
- Dispatch and monitor drivers for import and export container movements.
- Coordinate container pickups and deliveries at CN and CPKC rail terminals.
- Manage container movements to and from marine terminals and customer locations.
- Schedule appointments and ensure compliance with terminal cut-off times.
- Track container availability, holds, customs releases, and delivery status.
- Communicate with drivers, customers, brokers, steamship lines, and terminal operators.
- Monitor and minimize demurrage, detention, and storage charges.
- Ensure timely empty container returns to designated terminals.
- Resolve operational issues such as missed appointments, grounded containers, and customs holds.
- Maintain accurate records and provide updates to customers and management.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of experience as an Intermodal or Container Dispatcher.
- Proven experience with CN and CPKC rail operations.
- Experience handling import and export container movements.
- Strong knowledge of marine terminal and intermodal operations.
- Understanding of container documentation, pickup numbers, booking numbers, delivery orders, and customs processes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple drivers simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with dispatch software, Microsoft Office, and transportation management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with steamship lines, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
- Knowledge of demurrage, detention, and container tracking systems.
- Experience managing high-volume intermodal operations.
