Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator (Excavator) / Waterproofer
Terms of Employment:
- Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time
- Start Date: As soon as possible
Qualifications & Certifications:
- Required Certifications: CSTS-09 or CSTS 2020, WHMIS 2015, Heavy Equipment Operator Certification relevant to the role
- Driver's License: Active Alberta Class 5 Driver's License with a Clean Driver's Abstract
- Language: English proficiency required
Required Tools & Equipment:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Steel-toed safety boots
- Basic Hand Tools: Measuring tape, utility knife
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 45 kg (100 lbs.) and perform manual labour when not operating equipment
- Work Environment: Indoor and outdoor job sites with exposure to fluctuating temperatures, noisy and dusty conditions depending on the season
- Work Conditions: Fast-paced, physically demanding environment with a blended role between equipment operation and waterproofing work
Security & Transportation Requirements:
- Driving Record Check: A clean driving abstract is required
- Transportation: Must have reliable personal transportation to and from work
Essential Skills & Competencies:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Excavator Operation: Safely operate excavators for site preparation, trenching, backfill, grading, material handling, and other project needs
- Other Heavy Equipment Operation: Safely operate heavy equipment for site preparation, trenching, backfill, grading, material handling, and other project needs
- Equipment Safety: Complete daily equipment inspections and operate around workers, structures, marked utilities, and active job sites with care
- Waterproofing Support: When excavator work is not required, work with the crew applying waterproofing products to a variety of substrates
- Caulking & Coatings: Assist with precision caulking and application of coating systems such as Epoxy and Urethane coatings
Core Skills:
- Reading and understanding technical documents, construction drawings, grades, site instructions, and manufacturer specifications
- Numeracy skills for accurate measurements, depths, quantities, elevations, and material calculations
- Effective verbal communication and the ability to follow directions from crew leads and supervisors
- Teamwork and collaboration with crew members, operators, labourers, and waterproofing crews
- Decision-making and problem-solving on the job site
- Planning and organizing daily tasks, work areas, tools, equipment, and materials
- Adaptability and willingness to switch between equipment operation and hands-on waterproofing work
- Strong safety awareness and a "safety-first" mindset
