At Midland Power we’re on a mission to create powerful and reliable products that people can use every day — from backyards to job sites.
As a member of our Product Development Design team, you’ll be critical in ensuring the products we release meet the highest standards of quality, durability, and performance.
If you are someone who's not afraid to get hands-on and take things apart, figure out how things work, test them and find how to make them better, then we want to hear from you!
Summary Role:
The focus of this role is to elevate the performance of our products, and help build brilliant products for real-world users that will be sold in large retail stores across Canada.
You’ll work on mechanical equipment, gas and solar powered battery equipment and home back-up powered products. Your input comes right from the start during the design phase, through to production testing, and after customers use and share feedback.
You’ll get to be hands-on to test products that are in development, evaluate the performance, and help improve the quality before the final version reaches consumers.
Responsibilities
In a typical week you will:
- Test products, track results and incorporate into a process to meet or exceed quality standards
- Inspect and test incoming samples and finished products.
- Develop and lead performance quality checklists, procedures and documentation.
- Investigate issues, find the root causes and implement practical solutions to ensure the product functions as intended.
- Identify quality improvement areas from product feedback, testing, inspection reports, and research.
- Incorporate improvement notes into plans for future product versions.
- Collaborate with designer and manufacturers to make high-impact quality changes.
Who we’re looking for:
- Hands-on Problem Solver – ability to identify issues, determine root cause and find the appropriate solution to turn recommendations into actions.
- Mechanically Curious - have a mechanical knowledge of how things work, how they’re built, and why they fail. Power equipment and hard-goods knowledge is a plus!!
- Thorough and precise - you don’t rush conclusions. You gather data, validate assumptions and make evidence-based decisions.
- Patient and persistent – you’re steady under pressure and willing to work through problems until they’re truly solved.
- Driven to improve – you get energized by making products better, stronger, safter and more reliable. You respect the craft of how products are made and take pride in ensuring they perform in the real world.
- Continuous learner - eager to gain knowledge and reach further to learn about Midland’s products
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical / Civil Engineering, Industrial Designer, or similar with combined working experience
- Minimum 3 years of working experience in product improvement and development
- Familiar with SolidWorks and other CAD tools
- Familiar with improvement tools and methodologies (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma) is a bonus
- Bilingual English and Mandarin is an asset
