Job Description
We are seeking a Lawn Maintenance and Snow Removal Technician for a full-time, year-round position in Calgary, AB. In this role, you will take care of properties during all seasons – providing lawn maintenance in the warmer months and snow removal in the winter. Your duties will range from mowing and trimming lawns to shoveling snow and operating snow removal equipment, ensuring that each client’s property remains safe, clean, and well-maintained year-round. This is a year-round opportunity (not seasonal) offering stable employment with varied tasks as the seasons change. If you enjoy working outdoors and take pride in your work, we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Year-Round Property Care: Perform comprehensive seasonal property maintenance, including spring and fall yard clean-ups, summer lawn care, and winter snow removal.
- Lawn Maintenance: Mow, trim, and edge lawns; prune bushes and hedges; and conduct leaf clean-up and debris removal during spring, summer, and fall to keep landscapes healthy and attractive.
- Snow & Ice Removal: Clear snow and ice from driveways, walkways, sidewalks, and parking areas in the winter using shovels, snow blowers, and plow equipment. Apply salt, sand, or de-icer to surfaces to ensure safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate lawn care tools (mowers, trimmers, etc.) and snow removal equipment (snow blowers, plow trucks/attachments) safely and effectively. Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on equipment, and report any issues or required repairs.
- Reliability & Efficiency: Respond promptly to scheduled jobs and on-call snow removal requests. Arrive on time for shifts (including early morning winter shifts) and work efficiently to complete all tasks. Maintain a high level of honesty and integrity in all assignments, as timely and dependable service is essential to this role.
- Safety & Customer Service: Follow all safety guidelines and company procedures while on site. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and practice safe work habits. Provide courteous, professional service to clients, addressing any on-site inquiries and ensuring each property is left in excellent condition. Maintain open communication with the team and supervisors, reporting any hazards or incidents immediately.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License: Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (required) with a clean driving record. This role involves traveling to various job sites in the Calgary area (company vehicle provided for work tasks).
- Outdoor Readiness: Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions – hot summer afternoons, rain, cold autumn days, and extreme winter conditions (snow, wind, freezing temperatures).
- Physical Fitness: Physically fit and capable of lifting 50 lbs or more on a regular basis. Able to perform manual labor for extended periods (e.g. shoveling, pushing mowers) and handle repetitive tasks safely.
- Experience: Prior experience in lawn maintenance, landscaping, and/or snow removal is preferred (e.g. operating lawn mowers, trimmers, snow blowers, plow trucks). However, we will consider candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Reliability & Work Ethic: Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality are a must. Candidates should be dependable, self-motivated, and able to commit to early morning or on-call shifts during winter storms.
- Safety and Teamwork: Safety-conscious attitude with the ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision. Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset – able to coordinate with colleagues and contribute positively to a small crew environment.
Work Schedule
- Lawn Care Season (Spring – Fall): Generally Monday to Friday, daytime hours (approximately 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM). Work involves regular lawn maintenance routes and occasional weekend work during peak periods or if weather delays occur (e.g. rain delays in summer).
- Snow Season (Winter): On-call and variable hours, depending on snowfall. Shifts often start early morning (as early as 5:00–6:00 AM) or occur overnight to clear snow before businesses and homes start their day. Technicians must be available for short-notice call-outs when snow is forecast, including some evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed for heavy snowfall events. We rotate schedules to manage coverage, but a high degree of flexibility in winter is required.
- Year-Round Employment: This is a full-time position throughout the entire year. Expect a standard full-time hourly schedule (around 40 hours per week) during the lawn care season. Winter hours will vary based on weather (some weeks may have lighter hours, and other weeks will require overtime during major snow events). We strive to provide consistent work and will assign additional property maintenance tasks during mild weather periods in winter as needed.
