We are seeking a Forensic Civil Engineer who is passionate about technical investigations and construction-related issues. In this role, you will conduct thorough field investigations to determine the root cause of failures and defects, develop innovative remedial solutions, and serve as a trusted expert advisor to insurers and legal professionals. Your Responsibilities
Technical Analysis and Diagnosis
- Conduct detailed forensic assessments of structures and building systems to identify the root causes of issues such as collapses, settlement, vibration, cracking, water infiltration, condensation, frozen pipes, fire damage, and other failures.
- Perform on-site investigations and analyze physical evidence.
- Utilize appropriate inspection technologies and diagnostic tools.
- Assess the compliance of buildings, structures, and designs with applicable codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Determine the level of structural instability and design the most appropriate temporary shoring and stabilization measures to ensure site safety.
Design and Solution Development
- Develop and recommend optimal solutions to correct identified issues.
Expert Role
- Prepare detailed, summary, or specialized technical reports based on the specific requirements of each case.
- Collaborate with insurers, attorneys, and other professionals involved in the files.
- Provide expert witness testimony in court and defend your technical findings and conclusions when required.
- Perform any other related duties associated with forensic engineering investigations and technical expert assessments.
You are the right person for this position if:
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Building Engineering, or Architecture.
- You are registered as an Engineer or CPI with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
- You are proficient with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and structural analysis software (an asset).
- You hold a valid ASP Health and Safety on Construction Sites certification.
- You possess a valid driver’s licence and have access to a vehicle.
- You are fluent in French, both spoken and written; proficiency in English is considered an asset.
- You have strong communication skills and work effectively in a team environment.
- You are curious, detail-oriented, and possess excellent investigative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
