Hersey Bins is a fast-growing roll-off bin rental and Waste Disposal company serving Southwestern Ontario. We’re hiring an Operations Manager to take real ownership of how our operation runs — and to help us grow it.
You’ll own the performance of our fleet, routes, yard, and service, and you’ll lead the team that makes it all happen.
We run a disciplined operation: clear roles, real accountability, and weekly numbers everyone can see (we run on EOS). We’re a tight, ambitious operation building something several times its current size, and we want an operator who wants to build it with us and grow into a bigger role as we go.
What you’ll do
- Own the operation — dispatch, routing, yard, and preventative maintenance all report up to you. Keep the trucks moving, the bins working, and the service reliable.
- Lead the team — run Dispatch and the operational support functions, hold people accountable to clear numbers, and own the driver hiring pipeline so we’re never service-constrained as we grow.
- Live in the data — track and improve truck utilization, route density, labour per job, and disposal cost per tonne. Drive cost-per-job and cost-per-haul down without sacrificing service or safety.
- Make every asset work harder — cut idle trucks, deadhead miles, and inefficient routes. Tighten the operation.
- Negotiate cost — source new disposal sites and yard partners, and build vendor relationships that lower cost and drive time.
- Protect the customer — keep service reliable, respond to at-risk commercial accounts before they churn, and partner with sales to onboard new work cleanly.
- Own safety and compliance — champion health, safety, and commercial-vehicle compliance across the operation.
- Own your numbers — deliver trusted weekly reporting on service rate, productivity, cost per lift, fleet uptime, and safety.
What you bring
- 5+ years in operations management — waste, hauling, logistics, trucking, or bin/dumpster rental ideal.
- A proven record of improving margin through efficiency and cost reduction — with the numbers to back it up.
- Experience running or helping run a multi-truck fleet at scale. Ideally, you’ve operated a larger fleet than ours today and want to build toward that here.
- Strong analytical skills — spreadsheets, dashboards, and routing/fleet software (we run TRUX, Motive, Fleetio, Hubspot and more).
- Vendor negotiation skills and a natural relationship-builder.
- Experience leading teams and holding them accountable to a number.
- An ownership mentality, a practical low-friction bias, and direct communication. If being measured on a clear set of weekly numbers makes you nervous, this isn’t the right fit. If it’s how you already like to operate, you’ll feel at home here.
Why this role
- Real ownership of the company performance.
- A growth story you help write — we’re scaling fast, with the plan to do it.
- A role that grows with you.
- A performance bonus tied directly to the efficiency and margin results you drive.
