Position Description
The cashier provides all point-of-sale functions, including recording and collecting for customers purchases; processing transactions (cash, credit card, debit card) using retail software; keeping accurate record of all cash, in-house charge, and credit card transactions (debit, gift card etc.), reconciling records of sales with cash and credit information and making sure they balance, performing various services for customers, such as providing information, confirming prices, all done in a prompt friendly manner.

Specific Job Duties
General Duties as Cashier
Show up for your shift on time or a little before to get ready for work
Wear appropriate and clean clothing, as assigned by Management
Stay visible and in close vicinity of the cash station when you are assigned to the till
Maintain proper etiquette when serving customers and dealing with charge accounts
Process transactions quickly and efficiently including E-Commerce, maintaining a ‘less than 3 in line’ promise
Keep the cashier station neat and tidy - no food at the tills
Keep personal items in assigned lockers and not at the till (purse, cell phone)
Process orders for customers wishing to obtain ‘out-of-stock’ items
Put customer returned items into the appropriate department and/or shelf
Retrieve money from safe and prepare tills for the day on opening shift
Count tills on closing shift after store is secured or with management's permission
Maintain Flyer Binder keeping one issue of past Flyers for 6 months
Keep ALL sales items off the front counter unless approved by management
Sort Price changes and deliver to appropriate departments as listed on rear
Assist in sorting flyer tags to be given to appropriate depts as listed on rear
Answer phones when they ring with a friendly greeting, your name, and a question
Page over public address system when necessary.
Assist in training new cashiers.
General Duties as a Shepherd’s Staff Member ( When NOT assigned to the till area, and on 8:30am shift)
Serve customers on the floor by greeting them within 10 seconds and ask how you can assist
Assist customers in finding product and introduce them to other skilled employees if necessary
Ensure customers have had a positive shopping experience; take steps to rectify if they haven’t.
Put away freight in a timely manner while maintaining customer awareness and attention
Maintain your Assigned Aisles
Downstock or bring in from Warehouse
Face products to look neat and full
Do price changes when they are issued
Mark discontinued items
Develop a plan to replace discontinued product
Assist in down stocking/facing other aisles in store when not occupied in yours or with customers
Keep store clean of debris and keep customer areas safe to shop
Verify signatures on the back of credit cards and expiry dates.
Watch for shop-theft and take action, according to store policy.
Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc., as required.
Work on special projects as assigned by head cashier, supervisor or Sales Manager.
Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.
We’re seeking someone that is available and can work weekends.
