Overview
We are seeking a hands-on and experienced General Manager to lead our machine and fabrication shop while overseeing a millwright field service crew. This role combines operational leadership, technical expertise, and business development, including preparing accurate quotes and estimates for machining and fabrication.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in machining and fabrication along with proven leadership and management skills.
Reporting to the President, the General Manager will be responsible for the overall performance of the shop and site operations:
Operations & Production
- Direct the Shop Foreman and Site Foreman in daily production activities to ensure quality work is completed safely and on time
- Plan and prioritize shop workload, equipment utilization, and staffing levels
- Oversee general shop conditions, organization, and workflow efficiency
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase productivity and quality
- Recommend new equipment, tooling, or processes to improve operational performance
- Act as the escalation point for technical and operational issues in-shop and on-site
- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to customer expectations
Estimating & Job Management
- Prepare accurate pricing and delivery estimates for machining, fabrication, and millwright work
- Review drawings and specifications to determine labour, material, and subcontractor requirements
- Create job orders and develop efficient manufacturing plans for awarded work
- Coordinate delivery timelines with supervisors and customers
- Order raw materials and subcontract services in a timely manner
- Issue and manage purchase orders aligned with job costing
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop shop employees and site crews
- Support recruitment and onboarding of machinists, fabricators, and millwrights
- Conduct performance evaluations in collaboration with management and HR
- Address performance issues using progressive discipline when required
- Foster a strong culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork
Customer & Supplier Relations
- Maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers
- Support business development through responsive quoting and customer service
Requirements:
- Minimum ten years work experience in a machine and fabrication shop or industrial environment
- Post Secondary diploma in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Technology is considered an asset
- Trade Certification (General Machinist) is strongly preferred
- Business or Management training is an asset
- A minimum of ten years experience in a management or supervisory capacity
- Strong estimating and quoting experience in machining and fabrication
- Interpret blue print drawings and accurately read various measuring tools
- Understanding of machinery and equipment and material tolerances
- Solid understanding of quality control and working to quality standards
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proven problem-solving and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Proficiency with computer systems and production-related software
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Pay: $95,000.00-$115,000.00 per year

Experience:
- CNC milling machine: 10 years (required)

Licence/Certification:
