Blair Court Community House is a non-profit, multi-service organization directly located in a subsidized housing community. Blair Court Community House offers social, educational and recreational programs and services to children, youth and families. During the summer months, the community house offers a number of special day time and evening programs to children and youth. The Summer Program Youth Worker, reporting to the Executive Director, will be responsible for helping to provide a variety of fun and engaging activities to a diverse group of children and youth living in and around the Blair Court community.
Responsibilities:
- Help to provide direct recreational programming for children and youth ages 5-16
- Help to provide direct supervision of children and youth
- Help to plan, implement and facilitate programming
- Help with outreach to the community
- Help to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the program area
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Enrolled in or recently completed post secondary in Recreation, Child and Youth Worker, Social Services or related field
- Experience working with children, youth and families
- Knowledge and understanding of poverty and minority issues
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience in organized sports as a participant or a coach
- Current police records check and CPR First Aid certification
- English essential, French, or other languages an asset
- Applicant MUST be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Applicant MUST be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Applicant MUST have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Applicant MUST be available to work flexible hours, both daytime and evening hours from Monday-Thursday and for the duration of the contract period
Pay: $18.00 per hour
