The Camp Counsellor will support the delivery of Vedic Roots's holistic academic and enrichment camps, ensuring a safe, engaging, and culturally inclusive environment for all participants. Under the supervision of camp leads and program coordinators, the youth will perform the following tasks and responsibilities:
Child Supervision & Safety
- Provide attentive supervision to children during academic, recreational, and cultural activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during indoor and outdoor programming.
- Support transitions between activities, meals, wellness sessions, and field trips.
- Follow all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk-management guidelines.
Program Delivery & Activity Facilitation
- Assist in leading daily camp activities, including academic reinforcement sessions, arts and crafts, music, games, and cultural workshops.
- Support the delivery of holistic programming such as yoga, mindfulness, and meditation sessions appropriate for children.
- Facilitate interactive learning activities that promote teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.
- Adapt activities to meet different learning needs and age groups.
Cultural & Wellness Integration
- Help integrate South Asian cultural themes, stories, festivals, and traditions into camp programming.
- Support children in participating in wellness-based routines including yoga stretches, breathing exercises, and mindful reflection.
- Encourage healthy habits and assist with serving Ayurvedic-inspired meals while promoting respectful eating practices.
Relationship Building & Camper Support
- Build positive and supportive relationships with campers to create an inclusive, welcoming environment.
- Provide guidance, encouragement, and emotional support to help children feel safe and confident.
- Assist in managing group dynamics and addressing behavioural concerns in a respectful, developmentally appropriate way.
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with other counsellors, instructors, and program leads to deliver cohesive programming.
- Participate in daily team check-ins to discuss schedules, camper needs, and program improvements.
- Communicate observations or concerns about camper behavior, safety, or well-being to supervisors.
Program Preparation & Organization
- Assist with preparing materials, setting up learning or activity spaces, and organizing supplies.
- Support daily clean-up, sanitization of materials, and maintenance of safe, tidy program areas.
- Help record attendance, track participation, and support administrative tasks as assigned.
Professionalism, Leadership & Skill Development
- Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and a positive attitude in all camp duties.
- Take initiative in supporting campers and contributing to group activities.
- Participate in training sessions on child supervision, cultural awareness, safety protocols, and wellness practices.
- Reflect on personal learning goals and apply feedback from supervisors to improve performance.
Pay: $17.60-$22.00 per hour
