The company has an ambitious growth plan to expanding through acquisition of mid-market retirement residences across Canada over the next 5 years. JOB OVERVIEW
REPORTS TO: Manager, Operations Finance
Spring Living Retirement Communities is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to serve as a trusted finance partner for a larger and more complex portfolio of retirement communities. Reporting to the Manager, Operations Finance, this role works closely with Executive Directors, operational leaders and the finance team to support accurate reporting, strong controls and improved operating performance.
The role owns the full accounting cycle for assigned communities, supports acquisitions and special projects, and helps coach Financial Analysts to drive consistency and best practices across Operations Finance.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:
- Lead the full month-end close process for a larger and more complex portfolio of retirement communities.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations and complete monthly financial statements.
- Review financial statements for completeness, accuracy and reasonableness before management reporting.
- Investigate complex variances, accounting issues and unusual trends, and recommend appropriate follow-up actions.
Operations Finance & Business Partnering:
- Serve as a trusted finance partner to Executive Directors and operational leaders across assigned communities.
- Lead monthly financial reviews with site leadership and provide clear insight into performance, risks and opportunities.
- Monitor occupancy, labour, agency staffing, care revenue, food costs and other operational drivers that affect financial results.
- Provide practical recommendations to help improve financial performance and operational accountability.
Leadership, Controls & Team Support:
- Coach and mentor Financial Analysts by reviewing work, sharing best practices and supporting training.
- Help drive consistency in accounting processes, controls, reconciliations and reporting across the Operations Finance team.
- Support year-end audit requests, corporate reporting requirements and other finance initiatives as required.
Acquisitions & Continuous Improvement:
- Support acquisition onboarding, including opening balances, reporting setup, system alignment and early post-acquisition reporting.
- Lead or support process improvement initiatives related to Yardi workflows, reporting quality and month-end efficiency.
- Act as a subject matter resource for assigned processes and provide backup support during peak periods or special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
- 4 to 6+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience; retirement living, healthcare, real estate or multi-site operations experience is an asset.
- Strong full-cycle accounting experience, including month-end close, reconciliations, accruals and financial statement preparation.
- CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA is strongly preferred.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting systems; experience with Yardi is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical judgment with the ability to identify issues, investigate root causes and recommend practical solutions.
