Job Overview
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and completing repairs across mechanical, electrical, and structural components. This role also supports overall property upkeep, contributing to a high-quality environment for tenants through timely service, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and repair mechanical, electrical, and structural components to maintain operational efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment issues, including air exchangers, mini-split units, household appliances, and other building systems.
- Perform carpentry and drywall installation and repairs.
- Perform painting work, including surface preparation, priming, and finishing.
- Perform flooring repairs and replacement (e.g., vinyl, laminate, or tile) as needed.
- Perform general building upkeep, including minor lawn maintenance and exterior upkeep.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.
Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude across multiple trades (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry).
- Ability to perform general maintenance tasks with attention to detail and quality.
- Good communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with tenants and property management.
- Basic computer proficiency (e.g., email, Excel, maintenance/ticketing systems).
- Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a maintenance technician or in a similar building maintenance role.
- Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Excel.
- Valid driver’s license.
- WHMIS and Fall Arrest training are considered assets.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends for emergency calls.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check will be required.
