The Visual Arts Department is an exciting environment in which the study and practices of art history, theory, and studio combine in a unique and dynamic way.
The department is currently recruiting Life Drawing Models for figure drawing and painting classes. Please note that this role includes posing nude and/or partially clothed for educational purposes in a professional classroom setting.
Courses may include students under the age of 18 who are enrolled in university credit courses or outreach programs; all sessions are fully supervised by the course instructor or teaching assistant.
Work is performed under the supervision of the course instructor or teaching assistant during class hours. Models are expected to follow directions for specific drawing assignments and to hold poses from two seconds to as long as 30 minutes. The incumbents will work variable hours based on the class schedule.
Models are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism in all interactions and to adhere to classroom conduct policies, including strict prohibitions on photography or recording.
Qualifications
Education:
- Secondary School Diploma
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire
Experience:
- Prior related work experience
- Prior experience modeling for life drawing classes preferred
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Ability to remain relaxed and poised in front of students and instructor
- Ability to pose naturally for long periods of time without movement
- Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work an assigned schedule
- Ability to follow processes and practices with high attention to detail
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues and students
- Ability to work respectfully and professionally in a studio environment that includes a diverse student population, possibly including minors
- Comfort posing nude for extended periods in a structured academic setting
Working Environment & Expectations
- This is a professional academic role contributing to studio-based instruction in figure drawing and painting.
- Models will pose in a variety of positions (gesture, short and long poses) and will be provided with regular breaks.
- A private changing area will be provided.
- All sessions are instructor-led, and models will not be left alone with students.
- The university maintains a respectful, harassment-free environment; any concerns can be reported to the instructor or department.
