Job Summary
Clearwater Seafoods is seeking a motivated and hands-on sanitization lead hand to join our operations team in Glace Bay, NS. This role is responsible for leading daily sanitation activities while actively supporting the sanitation crew in maintaining a clean, safe, and food-compliant production environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring sanitation standards are consistently met while promoting teamwork, safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Sanitation Operations·
Perform cleaning and sanitization of production equipment, processing areas, and common spaces·Execute sanitation procedures in accordance with established schedules and protocols·Safely handle and apply cleaning chemicals and sanitation equipment ·Support waste management and disposal practices in compliance with environmental regulations·Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety throughout the facility
Team Leadership·
Lead, support, and coordinate sanitation team members during daily operations· Assign tasks and monitor completion of sanitation schedules · Provide training and coaching on sanitation procedures, chemical handling, and safety protocols· Promote a safe, positive, and productive work environment· Provide labour support and assist with operational duties as required
Compliance & Coordination·
Support sanitation scheduling and coordination across departments· Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMP, and Occupational Health & Safety standards· Assist with internal audits, inspections, and corrective actions· Report sanitation concerns, maintenance issues, and non-compliance matters to supervisors· Maintain sanitation records and documentation as required
Continuous Improvement
Support sanitation effectiveness monitoring, including inspections and swabbing activities where applicable· Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased operational efficiency· Assist in troubleshooting sanitation-related issues and implementing corrective measures· Promote responsible chemical usage and waste reduction practices
Communication & Collaboration
Act as a liaison between the sanitation team and leadership· Clearly communicate daily priorities, safety updates, and operational expectations· Collaborate with production and cross-functional teams to minimize operational disruptions· Uphold Clearwater’s values through professionalism, teamwork, and accountability
Qualifications
- Previous experience in sanitation, cleaning, or food production environment
- Experience in a lead hand or supervisory role is an asset
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling practices
- Understanding of HACCP, GMPs, and OH&S systems preferred
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
