Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Water & Sewer Pipe Layer to join our active project sites in the Ottawa area. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground municipal infrastructure including watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems in compliance with City of Ottawa standards and applicable Ontario regulations. Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer piping (PVC, DI, HDPE, concrete) per municipal design drawings and City of Ottawa standard details
- Use hand tools and power tools for cutting, fitting, and securing pipes and related components
- Perform trench excavation, bedding preparation, pipe laying, jointing, and backfill to OPSS and OPSD specifications
- Assist with rigging operations for lifting and positioning large pipe sections or equipment
- Ensure proper connection of pipes using mechanical knowledge and appropriate techniques
- Read and interpret civil/servicing drawings, grade sheets, and layout plans
- Set and maintain pipe grades/slopes using pipe laser, laser level, grade rod, and string line
- Install and connect service laterals, catch basins, maintenance holes, and appurtenances
- Coordinate with superintendents, inspectors, and utility locators on site
- Complete daily field documentation and material tracking as required
- Work safely around excavators, compactors, and other heavy equipment
- Follow all safety procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment
- Maintain equipment and tools in good working condition
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times
Experience
- Approximately 10 years of hands-on experience as a pipe layer in municipal/civil infrastructure construction
- Strong working knowledge of watermain, sanitary, and storm sewer installation methods
- Familiarity with City of Ottawa standards (S-series drawings), OPSS, and OPSD specifications
- Ability to read and work from civil engineering drawings, profiles, and grade sheets
- Experience with both open-cut and confined space/trench box installations
Compensation
- Wage: $35.00 to $40.00 per hour (based on experience)
- Fuel/Car Allowance: company provides fuel or fuel allowance to cover travel to and from project sites
- Full-time, field-based position with consistent hours on active projects
This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety standards.
