Are you an accomplished competitive chess player who is passionate about teaching and developing young talent? We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Chess Instructor to lead our classes, clubs, and coaching programs for students of various ages and skill levels.
The Role: Coach and Strategist
You will be responsible for inspiring students, from beginners learning basic moves to advanced players preparing for tournaments. This role requires the ability to blend fundamental instruction with sophisticated, high-level strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction: Develop and deliver engaging and age-appropriate lessons in chess theory, opening principles, middle-game tactics, and endgame strategy.
- Coaching: Provide personalized, one-on-one coaching and small-group training to help serious students prepare for competitive play.
- Curriculum: Utilize or develop a structured curriculum designed to systematically improve students' ratings and understanding of the game.
- Class Management: Maintain a fun, focused, and disciplined learning environment that encourages deep strategic thinking and sportsmanship.
- Tournament Preparation: Lead and supervise students at local, regional, and national tournaments, providing pre-game strategy sessions and post-game analysis.
Required Qualifications:
- Competitive Experience (Mandatory): Verifiable experience participating in official chess tournaments is required (e.g., FIDE-rated, USCF-rated, or equivalent national organization tournaments).
- Chess Skill Level: A current or former chess rating (e.g., FIDE, USCF, Chess.com, Lichess) of Minimum Rating, 2000 or higher is highly desirable, demonstrating a strong grasp of advanced concepts.
- Teaching Experience: Minimum of 2 years of formal teaching, tutoring, or coaching experience with children or young adults.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Deep knowledge of diverse openings, tactical motifs, and classical endgame literature.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex strategies simply and motivate students.
