The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plant equipment and facility systems to ensure safe and efficient seafood processing operations. This role supports production by ensuring all utilities and equipment function reliably while adhering to safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards.
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the Plant Maintenance Technician will assume the following responsibilities:
Job Duties
- Conduct regular inspections of plant equipment to ensure proper functioning and identity potential issue.
- Apply preventative measures to the building and equipment to reduce the risk of future problems.
- Carry out routine maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout the facility.
- Maintain and repair plant machinery and processing equipment as required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment breakdowns in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logbooks, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation.
- Collaborate closely with production teams to ensure utility services meet operational processing demands.
- Follow all workplace safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations, including WHMIS and HACCP standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Previous experience working in an industrial and/or food processing environment is required.
- Fourth-Class Power Engineer certification is required.
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and record-keeping abilities.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50lbs when required.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in cold and wet environment typical of seafood processing facilities.
- Exposure to noise, moving machinery, and industrial equipment.
- Ability to work overtime, or weekends when needed.
