Scope of the Position
The Associate Account Manager will support Retail Business Bankers, Account Managers and Sr Account Managers, in ensuring that Alterna attains its growth objectives and manages its existing commercial and business portfolio by assisting both new and current accounts in meeting their business needs. The Associate Account Manager will liaise with portfolio managers in reviewing and managing the portfolio of small to medium sized commercial accounts. Under their guidance, they will support all aspects of portfolio management including performance of revenue growth initiatives, credit quality assessment and furthering the member relationship by identifying and providing for account needs for credit, deposit and other products and services. Proactive involvement in business development activities will be expected, for the purposes of generating and retaining business from existing and new members.
The Associate Account Manager, will also be responsible for reviewing Alterna’s High Risk Business Banking (including Cannabis) account files annually. They will follow a detailed analysis for existing high-risk accounts to ensure continuity of meeting our banking requirements and risk management criteria and ensure the they are current with all documentation required for compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Provides general member account and portfolio support to Retail Business Banker, Account Managers and Senior Account Managers:
- Delivers Alterna’s credit, savings and other products and services to both existing and new accounts by assessing their specific needs, having a thorough knowledge of our available products and services, and identifying appropriate solutions, either directly or through referral to the appropriate service provider (e.g. Retail branch network, Account Managers, Sr Account Managers).
- Ensures members/clients/account’s needs are being met, by assisting with the account relationship, and by communicating effectively and openly with the accounts to explain our product and service offerings and processes.
- Sources, receives, investigates and analyzes requests for business/commercial services and products from a variety of sources, individual accounts, small and medium sized enterprises, Corporations, Associations, Co-Operatives, Not-for-Profit organizations, and other lenders, and assists with larger and/or more complex requests.
- Applies sound and supportable judgment within the parameters of accepted commercial business banking practices and procedures, as well as Alterna’s By-Laws and Policies.
- Demonstrates resourcefulness, creativity, innovation, and a helpful attitude, while striving to meet the needs of both the accounts and Alterna.
- Keeps abreast of local business opportunities, general economic indicators, and commercial real estate industry trends.
- Shares his/her expertise with new employees or staff from other departments, as required.
- Collaborates with Commercial Services Administration and assists in the completion of directives in line with departmental and corporate initiatives in an effort to meet member/client/account service requirements
Onboarding and File Reviews for High-Risk Accounts:
- Manages all assigned annual high risk account reviews and completes within an agreed upon timeline
- Conducts a detailed due diligence analysis ensuring Alterna’s requirements, legislative and compliance are met and followed
- Assist with the high risk/ Cannabis Business Specialist with the client onboarding process which requires detailed analysis of new high risk accounts to ensure they meeting our banking requirements and risk management criteria, and have all documentation required for compliance.
- Ensures the updated documents are reviewed and completed in a thorough manner as set out in Alterna’s policy and procedures and those required at the legislative level
- Identifies and investigate non-standard operational / reporting / process issue
- Provides training to others on best practices, processes, etc. as well as guide mentor other team members for the completion of business
- Collaborates with Compliance Department and other internal partners as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Certification / Experience
- Post-secondary education in a related business field combined with 3 years related experience in a financial institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and experience with business and Personal banking products and services.
- 2 years account management or relationship management experience with direct member contact.
- Experience reading financial statements a strong asset.
- 2 years experience working with credit and business credit a strong asset.
- Experience in working in a highly regulated environment an asset.
