Within Enverus, the research team is a distinct group focused on delivering actionable insights for our clients. Our clients include E&Ps of every size, midstream, oilfield services, mineral owners, and financial-services clients across hedge funds, credit shops, and mutual funds. They pay us to have opinions they can act on, not to summarize what everyone already knows.
We hire curious, self-motivated people and expect them to find the stories the market is missing. The job is knowing to ask questions, doing the work to answer it, and writing something a client actually reads. If you're looking for a role where you're handed a template and told what to update, this isn't it.
We are currently recruiting for a Research Associate to Senior Analyst, Oil & Gas to join our organization based in Calgary.
We're open to candidates ranging from brand new to 10 years in. What we care about is judgment, curiosity, and the ability to form and defend a view. A new grad who's genuinely fascinated by this industry can outperform in this role, while a seasoned candidate with real basin-level depth can accelerate the team's output from day one. Both work for us. The level of the hire and the compensation will match the successful candidate.
Background in Canadian or US plays is welcome. The analytical fundamentals transfer either way, and the specific basin knowledge is learnable on the job.
Performance Objectives
-
Cover a set of oil and gas plays in depth: know the operators, the assets, infrastructure, execution strategy, and how the market values the assets versus what you think they're worth.
- Find and pressure-test the stories worth telling. A single deal, a technology shift, a basin-level dislocation, an operator doing something the market hasn't noticed yet.
- Write research that's short, sharp, and defensible.
- Talk to clients directly. On the phone, at their office, at conferences. You'll be in the group they call when they want to understand what's happening in your coverage.
- Work with our multidisciplinary team covering engineering, geology, macro, M&A, and finance to build the full picture around a name or a theme.
Competitive Candidate Profile
-
Genuine curiosity about the industry.
-
The ability to form a view and defend it. We're hiring analysts, not summarizers. If a client asks what you think, "here are both sides" isn't an answer.
- Strong writing. Direct, clear, opinionated writing that respects the reader's time.
- Comfort with ambiguity and self-direction.
-
Willingness to take direction and feedback. This job requires both independence and coachability.
-
Undergraduate degree in engineering, finance, geology, accounting, mathematics, or a related field. Professional designations (CFA, P.Eng., P.Geo., MBA) are useful, especially at the more senior end.
- Fluent in Excel. Willingness to leverage AI tools for both enhancing visualizations and accelerating analysis.
