Inn From the Cold (IFTC) meets the needs of people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in York Region. We work with the community and collaborate with our partners in supporting those with basic to complex needs. IFTC’s work is housing focused, and trauma informed, offering a continuum of services and programs that allow us to partner with our clients on their journeys out of homelessness. Overview: The Georgina Drop-By is a program delivered in partnership with the Town of Georgina and York Region. The Drop-By Coordinator will work with people experiencing homelessness, in collaboration with other staff and collaborative partners. They will provide a welcoming, inclusive space providing access to basic needs, food, showers, as well as conducting social inclusion activities to build a sense of community. They will also provide warm transfers to support services based on the unique needs of each individual.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare service for the day Connect with clients Greet collaborative partners and facilitate their work Greet Inn Team Members and facilitate their work Collaborate with Inn Team Manager and Team Leads regularly Greet volunteer/students and assign them with tasks Assist volunteers/students in delivering service Oversee and participate in lunch preparation, serving and clean up Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and other beverages, and ensure snacks are available for clients between meals Provide clients with basic needs including clothing, personal care items, clothing, access to showers etc. Provide brief, solution-focused counselling to clients Connect clients to relevant services both internally and externally Using a client-centred approach, de-escalate aggressive behaviour or disputes between clients Report all client, staff, or program concerns to the Client Services Manager in a timely manner Reinforce the rules and policies of the Drop-By Program Model the behaviour we wish to see in our clients at all times Provide clients with non-judgmental harm reduction support and guidance Follow COVID Preparedness Document and all other public health directives Complete daily shift report as a team Attend weekly drop-by meetings Attend monthly all staff meetings Other tasks and duties as assigned
Knowledge/Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of homeless and/or socially isolated adults with a variety of mental health and addiction concerns Knowledge and understanding of harm reduction principles and tools Diploma in social service work or relevant field of study Knowledge of trauma informed practices Strong de-escalation skills and effective in dealing with conflict and crisis Friendly, flexible and ability to juggle multiple priorities Demonstrate a clear understanding of IFTC policies, including professional boundaries and confidentiality Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and able to work in a team Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certificate, prior to first day of work Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening, within 6 months Food Handler Certificate an asset WHIMS Certificate an asset Able to plan and carry out shift with minimal supervision Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- College or University degree in related discipline Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certificate, prior to first day of work Food Handling Certificate an asset WHIMS
