Kennel Attendant (Entry-Level) — Start Your Career With Dogs!
Starting as a Kennel Attendant, you’ll gain the foundation to become confident working with dogs in a structured, professional environment. This is the perfect role for someone who loves dogs, thrives in a fast-paced setting, and wants to learn hands-on every day!
You’ll master the essentials of dog care and kennel operations, including:
- Understanding basic dog behaviour
- Maintaining excellent canine health and wellness
- Implementing structure and routine
- Keeping a calm, clean, and quiet kennel environment
Your role is critical to the health, safety, and overall experience of every dog in our care — and we’ll make sure you’re trained to succeed!
Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day tasks will include (but are not limited to):
- Transporting dogs safely to and from kennels
- Ensuring dogs always have fresh food and water
- Keeping kennels spotless by cleaning waste, debris, hair, and spills
- Disposing of trash quickly and properly
- Grooming dogs and assisting with basic treatments when needed
- Maintaining a comfortable environment (air temperature, ventilation, etc.)
- Communicating any significant changes in a dog’s behaviour or health to Trainers
- Supporting emergency procedures, including evacuating animals if needed
- Working in a confined space and staying focused during busy shifts
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- High school diploma (or equivalent)
- Previous experience caring for animals (an asset, but not required)
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs unaided
- A genuine passion for dogs and animal welfare
- The ability to stay calm, focused, and reliable in a busy environment
