Field Surveyor

We are currently seeking an experienced Field Surveyor to join our team and support surveying operations across multiple heavy civil construction projects.
The Field Surveyor is responsible for performing and coordinating survey activities on heavy civil construction projects. This role ensures survey data is accurate and reliable for project layout, machine control, quantity tracking, and construction verification. The Field Surveyor will work closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to support project execution from pre-construction through completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize GPS, GNSS, total stations, laser levels, and slope lasers to determine precise grades and positions on job sites.
- Perform layout and surveying for civil construction projects including roads, grading, pipelines, culverts, and other infrastructure.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and transpose design information accurately onto the worksite.
- Generate survey layouts and verify construction work to ensure adherence to designated lines, grades, and elevations.
- Collect and maintain accurate field notes, survey records, and as-built data for project documentation and turnover.
- Conduct topographic surveys, volumetric calculations, and quantity measurements for reporting and project tracking.
- Utilize CAD and survey software to generate cut/fill maps, volume reports, and project deliverables required for payment and project completion.
- Assist with interim design work and present findings or updates to management when required.
- Troubleshoot survey layout issues and machine control data to ensure field equipment and operators are working with accurate information.
- Support machine control systems and ensure survey data is properly formatted for construction equipment.
- Communicate effectively with project management, engineering teams, and field supervision to coordinate survey requirements.
- Ensure all survey equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and operating according to manufacturer standards.
- Promote and adhere to company safety policies and procedures while encouraging a culture of safety across project sites.
- Perform other surveying duties as required.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Minimum 2–3-year Technical Diploma in Geomatics Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, or a related field.
- Minimum 3+ years of surveying experience within the road and civil construction industry.
- Experience with Trimble survey equipment and machine control systems.
- Experience with CAD drafting and survey software for quantity calculations and reporting (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center or similar).
- Strong understanding of construction survey procedures, contract specifications, and road construction materials.
Certifications & Licenses:
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Required).
- Advanced drone license (Preferred).

Working Conditions
- Full-time construction schedule.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or overtime as required.
- Work performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company safety procedures.
Compensation & Benefits:
