Overview
Gemina Labs is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Chemist, Chemical Engineer, or Process Engineer with demonstrated expertise in the synthesis and large-scale manufacturing of nanoparticles and nanomaterials. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in nanoparticle synthesis protocol development, process optimization, and the transfer of R&D protocols into ISO 9001-compliant commercial production environments. The candidate will play a critical role in the scale-up, validation, and ongoing manufacturing of advanced nanomaterials at commercial scale.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, refine, and optimize synthesis protocols for nanoparticle and nanomaterial production, ensuring reproducibility, consistency, and compliance with quality standards.
Translate laboratory-scale synthesis processes into robust, ISO 9001-compliant manufacturing protocols suitable for large-scale production.
Lead process scale-up activities from bench scale to pilot and full commercial operations while maintaining rigorous quality, safety, and performance standards.
Establish and maintain quality management procedures in alignment with ISO 9001, including process documentation, validation, change control, and continuous improvement practices.
Diagnose and resolve complex process and production issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions to ensure product integrity and manufacturing reliability.
Contribute to the design, setup, and commissioning of new production facilities, including equipment selection, process layout, and qualification.
Support ongoing commercial manufacturing activities, ensuring adherence to established production schedules, quality specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to laboratory and production personnel in synthesis methods, process controls, and best practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline; a Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant industrial experience may be considered.
Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on laboratory and process experience in the chemical synthesis of nanoparticles or nanomaterials.
Demonstrated, practical experience with the Turkevich process for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles, including optimization and troubleshooting of this methodology.
Familiarity with common characterization techniques for nanoparticles (e.g., UV–Vis, DLS, TEM/SEM, ICP-OES/MS) and interpretation of results for process control and product release.
Experience in setting up or significantly expanding a production facility (equipment specification, commissioning, validation, and operational readiness) is considered a strong asset.
Proven track record in developing and optimizing synthesis protocols and scaling processes from research to pilot and commercial manufacturing.
Demonstrated ability to work within ISO 9001-compliant environments, including preparation and control of SOPs, batch records, deviation reports, CAPAs, and validation documentation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions for process deviations.
Strong commitment to EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) practices and safe handling of chemicals and nanomaterials.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
