JOB DESCRIPTION
The Weld Technician accumulates and records test data for materials, devices and products. Performs general department maintenance. The technician is also responsible for complying with ISO & other quality systems procedures, as required.
SHIFTS AVAILABLE
Days: 6:00am to 2:00pm M-F
or
Afternoons: 2:00pm to 10:00pm M-F
SPECIFIC DUTIES - TECHNICIAN
- Responsible for programming, troubleshooting and monitoring robotic/resistance welders; set up of robotic/resistance welders and obtaining first offs.
- Responsible for maintaining steady production flow through the department during the shift.
- Upkeep of daily event log and communication between crews.
- Inspects welded joints and conducts tests to ensure welds meet company standards and customer job specifications.
- Verifies and maintains sufficient supplies corresponding to the production schedule (i.e.: nuts, bolts, electrodes, etc.) and inform Supervisor on what supplies require replenishing.
- Recommends adoption of new developments and applications to Supervisor and demonstrates practicality of recommendations.
- Records inspection and test results; prepares and submits reports to Supervisor. Examine migwelds with Clemexsystem.
- Ensure that all welding and testing equipment is operating as per manufacturer’s specifications and at peak performance.
- Recommend and implement solutions for weld quality issues.
- Debugging, programming and path editing, repairing and replacing damaged components such as weld guns, electrodes, troubleshoot and develop root cause analysis of machine and welder issues. Interface with maintenance to maximize up time.
- Review of new fixtures/equipment as required.
- General housekeeping.
- Assist Lead Hand in training of operators.
SPECIFIC DUTIES – WELD SET-UP
- Ensure that all welding and testing equipment is operating per manufacturer’s specifications and peak performance. This includes performing routing maintenance and clearing faults.
- Upkeep of daily event log and communication between crews.
- Understand how to perform all quality inspections and tests (including all weld destructive tests), andrecommend solutions for weld quality issues.
- Review of new fixtures / equipment as required.
- Maintain department in a safe, clean and orderly condition, perform periodic inventory checks to verify inventory quantities and participate in annual inventory.
- Complete daily check list per shift if consumable materials (ietips, welding wire, gas) complete order card inform supervisor (in supervisors absence give to Purchasing).
- Perform cycle counts on consumable materials if required.
- Assist in training, production related topics.
- Report to and assist Supervisor with disciplinary issues as required.
- Any other task set by the Welding Supervisor/Welding Manager.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Compensation starting from $24.50 to $35.00 per hour
- 3-5 years of working experience
- Company Policies/Procedures (quality management, health & safety, environmental policies and company rules)
- Operating Work Instructions
- WHMIS Knowledge
- Must understand basic written and verbal instructions to complete his/her assigned tasks.
- May require to be licensed in using forklift and/or overhead crane.
EDUCATION
Completed, at least, a technical (2 year) college certificate program or equivalent experience.
